The PIPES Act of 2016, AKA Protecting our Infrastructure of Pipelines and Enhancing Safety Act of 2016, signed into law by President Obama on June 22, 2016. Introduced by Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb), it re-authorizes the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration through FY 2019 and provide for a number of provisions to enhance pipeline safety. Passed by the Senate with an amendment in March, it was amended and approved by the House on June 8. The Senate agreed to the House amendment on June 13. There were no floor votes. All actions were taken by unanimous consent in the Senate or a voice vote in the House. It becomes Public Law No. 114-183.
