The third and final debate among Republican contenders for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Mike Johanns will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday April 9 at the University of Nebraska Law School on East Campus.
According to an email by state GOP executive director Bud Synhorst, participants will include Sid Dinsdale, Bart McLeay, Shane Osborn and Ben Sasse.
There is a fifth Republican candidate for Senate, Clifton R. Johnson of Ft. Calhoun, but he was excluded from previous debates. The Washington County Pilot-Tribune & Enterprise has reported that state GOP chairman J.L. Spray told it that Johnson was not included because he had not filed the proper paperwork. However, the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office has Johnson on its list of official candidates.
Debate topics will be immigration, health care, the war on terror, balancing the budget and the economy, national defense and the situation in Ukraine, and presidential appointments.
KETV’s David Earl will be the moderator. Panelists will be Kevin Thomas of KLIN Radio, Brent Martin of Nebraska Radio Network and Gordon Winters of the Lincoln Journal Star.
The debate will be live-streamed at KETV.com in Omaha and at KLIN.com in Lincoln. It will also be broadcast on Nebraska Radio Network’s 30+ affiliate stations. KLIN (1400 AM and 94.5 FM in Lincoln) will broadcast the debate at 8 p.m.
A limited number of tickets for the debate are available. For more information, contact the Nebraska Republican Party at 402-475-2122.
